Summer Streets Festival is a free music, arts and culture festival that takes place every summer in Cliffe Park, Roker, Sunderland. Since launching in 2014, the festival has grown into one of Sunderland’s most distinctive grassroots cultural events — bringing together world-class artists, emerging talent, community organisations, workshops, outdoor arts and family activity in one open and welcoming public space at the seafront.

At its heart, Summer Streets is about creating a genuine “coming together” moment for the city. We believe ambitious cultural experiences should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, background or financial circumstance, which is why the festival remains completely free to attend.

Opportunities for young people and emerging talent

The festival has always championed Sunderland’s creativity, identity and sense of place. Alongside bringing exciting artists and cultural experiences into the city, Summer Streets exists to support local talent, create opportunities for young people and celebrate the communities that make Sunderland unique.

Summer Streets is proudly independent, community-focused and built through collaboration — made possible through the support of artists, audiences, volunteers, partners and local organisations who believe culture should feel open, welcoming and part of everyday life.

World-class artists alongside grassroots creativity

Across the weekend you’ll find nationally (and internationally) recognised artists performing alongside local musicians, young performers sharing stages with established acts, hands-on creative workshops, participatory activity, outdoor arts, independent traders and spaces simply to sit and enjoy the atmosphere.
