BORN LIPPY SLAM POETRY

SUMMER STREETS SPECIAL!

This year we’ve teamed up with Born Lippy to present 2 events that are a celebration of all things wordy!

EVENT 1 - Born Lippy Young People’s Poetry Slam (Live in-room and LiveStream event) date & time tbc

Eight young poets go head to head in a friendly war of words. Then it’s up to you the audience to vote and choose your favourite until only two are left to battle it out for the glorious prize of becoming Born Lippy Summer Streets Young Peoples’ Slam Champion 2021!

Featuring special guest poet - Rowan McCabe

Aware that poetry isn’t a proper job, Rowan McCabe decided to create his own and became the world’s first Door-to-Door Poet. In 2019 he went all around England knocking on strangers’ doors and asking what is important to them. He then went away and wrote a poem about it, free of charge, before bringing it back and performing it on their doorstep. Imagine the Avon lady… but with rhymes.

Rowan has also written poems for Channel 4, Radio 3’s ‘The Verb’ and his work has been featured in the Guardian and on BBC Breakfast. He has performed on stages around the UK, including Glastonbury Festival and the Royal Albert Hall. In 2020, the National Trust invited him to be poet in residence at Wordsworth’s house.

EVENT 2 - Born Lippy over 18’s Poetry Slam (Live in-room and LiveStream event) Date & time tbc

Eight poets go head to head in a friendly war of words. Then it’s up to you the audience to vote and choose your favorite until only two are left to battle it out for the glorious prize of becoming Born Lippy Summer Streets Slam Champion 2021.

Featuring special guest poet – Jenni Pascoe.

Sunderland born, slam winning poet who uses rhythm, rhyme and wordplay to discuss burning issues such as the perils of auto-correct, and the plight of disenfranchised moths.  Jenni has hosted many events over the past ten years, including SLAMalgamate, The Great Gateshead Slam, and most notably, the long-running spoken word cabaret, JibbaJabba, and is very much looking forward to performing in front of real live humans again.

Both events will be hosted by Born Lippy’s Donald Jenkins:
