‘YEGOKO - What’s going on’ WILL PREMIERE ON SUMMER STREETS YOUTUBE AT 7PM ON FRIDAY 17TH JULY 2020.
AN ADAM GOODWIN FILM.
APPROX RUNNING TIME 10 MINS
Dandyism is a celebration of style and cool. It is centuries old. In Africa it began as a defiance against slavery in the 18th Century and a resistance movement. Today it is an international phenomenon, preserving a legacy of African culture, promoting peace and acceptance in an ever divided world.
For Summer Streets, Patrick has created a new Dandyism performance film: ‘Yegoko’.
Patrick offers an invitation to you to become a Dandy-in-a-Day, up-cycle what you have in your wardrobe, learn some Dandy moves and create your own catwalk. “Dandyism" is an invitation to explore your individuality, to dress up, to show off and to say “we are here”.
Dress sharp, present your best self.
More information on Patrick Ziza:
Patrick Ziza was born in Rwanda and moved to Newcastle Upon Tyne in the North East of England when he was 17. After completing his BA at University of Sunderland, Patrick began to teach both on university dance courses and in the community, as well as travelling across Europe to work with a diverse range of practitioners and performing in the UK for contemporary choreographers including Gary Clark, Ella Mesma and Martin Hylton. Patrick became more and more interested in tapping into his cultural heritage, identities, gender and how these are expressed and repressed. Now, as a choreographer, his work reflects the immense passion he has for dance and cultural eclecticism, but also the issue of humanism, gender and identity in a 21st century world which is, sadly, still divided.
